Human Of Cambodia

Hi! We are from the Liger Learning Centre. In Liger, we do project-based learning, which includes something called “Explorations.” They are seven-week projects where we connect with our community to learn and make change. In class, we explored and analyzed Humans of New York and Humans of Phnom Penh, sharing our opinions and discussing some ideas. Then we decided to make our own. Check it out!.

  • The plastic problem
  • How plastic affect the health
  • What is the solution
  • 3R reduce reuse recycle

We want to let people know how to change their behavior and would like them know how bad the plastic were. We also want to give what the information that we have been research to the competition.

                                    Solution of the plastic

Educate people by waste

  • In each country is have the schools and in the school is have education but instead of learning we can teach a student how to use the plastic well. We want to let the kids know a lot about plastic and how bad it is. It not just tell how bad the plastic is but tell them how to use the bad thing become the good thing. First step we can donate to plastic or something that can recycle to the school that can make them feel want to change the world and also if they were adult they will try to do what they have been doing before. We can also try to make a book that tell to recycle the plastic so they will got a lot of Idea to try to recycle.

3R (reduce reuse recycle)

  • The solution of the plastic is 3R reduce reuse recycle. Reduce is one way that people can try to use the plastic less. It was very large topic that people should know we need to use it less because when we use it a lot it will become earth plastic so it affect a lot to people and not just you must remember. Reuse is the part of 3R so it mean whatever the plastic is we can use it again like bottle and plastic bag. Recycle is the most important that people should know all around the world. Recycle when we use the plastic we can make a plastic that we use it already to make a different thing that can help us. It also when we recycle the plastic we will know how important to recycle plastic it is. Solution is

Memoir

Football: The sport I have played the most is football. One day, during

my second year in Liger school, I heard my coach, Jeff, said that  our

team would have a big competition with a lot of schools in one day. I

waited for the day and waited and waited for this big football competition. I

went to tell my coach Jeff, “I wait a long time to play in the football

competition Jeff.” Jeff replied back, “You need to make this simple and

you need to practice a lot to be a winner”.

I started  to do like Jeff told me. When the big competition day came, I

woke up in the morning with a smile on my face and my father said, “This

day you need to win this competition, so you need to eat a lot because

that can make you strong.”

I came to school.  Then my school bus started to drive on the road to one

organization. When we wanted the organization, there were a lot of

schools, like iCAN school, Northbridge school, CIA school and other

schools. Before we played we needed to listen to the referee tell us when

we would start to play.

My team started to play with one school called CIA. We beat them. I shot

one goal and my friends named David and Chhoeu shot two more goals.

My team could go into the next round and we won one more game.  I shot

two more goal in another game, so I had a total of three goals.

We played until there were four teams left but we lost one team  by

penalty kicks. Next time we need to practice more. When I came home I

felt tired and went to sleep. This football competition made me like this

sport more and more.

I like football because this sport shows me a lot of teams work and I can make  a lot of friends.

For example, I met my friend named Jaime and he met me

a lot of times when I played in football competitions. Jaime, he came from

iCAN school and he shared a lot of ideas about how to win with me.  He

told me about strategy in the football game. That strategy it was my

favorite thing in football that I will not forget. Also, this football sport, it

makes me healthy and more good.

Sensing is sensor custom program, for example when we touch color black the avatar turn to black. Sounds is sounds custom program, for example when we press space avatar say hello. Pen is coloring custom program. We learned what the categories mean and we translated in Khmer to make more understand and remember. We played with the program to change the color to make it big. We thought what story we were going to make. Then we made the stories in Scratch. Also some of us made the games. When we had some of questions we asked teacher or our friends to help. We played with makey makey that connects to Scratch. One example of a game we made is when we touch the Earth material that connects to makey makey and the makey makey connects to computer. The computer plays the sounds.

Life on the Border Description

Exploration Name: Life on Border

Exploration Dates: March 10 – May 2

Number of Students: 15

Essential Questions/Areas:

(1) What do students know about planning and running Exploration projects?

(2) What are the steps of running Exploration project?

(3) How to keep track ofworking process?

(4) How to use resources efficiently and transparently?

(5) How is the situation of people living along the border such as: education, health, economic and immigration?

(7) Why do people move there?

(8) What are the advantages and disadvantages of living there?

Description:

In our Life On Border group we learned a lot of  things about border. Students know how to run the Exploration very well. Students know the goal to run their project. The first step that we can run our project is we learn about our goal. Our goal is Project Summary, Project Outcome, Project Mentors, Field Experiences, 21st Century Learning Skills and Core Curriculum Areas. After we learned about our goal we planned and thought. The situation of the people that live along the border is normal. Some people don’t have money so they don’t have work. Some people go to find work at Thailand so when the people go already some of the people can’t come back. People’s health is not so good at the border because they don’t have money to buy their food. They move to the border because if the people have the money they come to border to sell something because the border have a lot of people came from Russia to the Cambodia. So that why people want to make their business there. The advantage to live there is there are not a lot of bad people at there so it safe for people. The disadvantage to live there is if people don’t have money and they don’t have work they will not be safe for their life. We went to the border to learn and we saw some people have a work and some people don’t have work. Some people have a work but it like cart worker it is not easy to get the money. We interview the cart worker and the sellers. We went to casino to visit, but we didn’t get a chance to go in.

Community English Description

Exploration Name: Community English

Exploration Dates: August 12th-September 16th

Number of Students: 12

Essential Questions: Is there a best way to teach and learn?

How does knowing English effect change?

Description: Our first opening Exploration was Community English. In Community English we learned how to prepare and teach lessons to other people. But before we taught we needed to find the people who want to learn with us. To find the students we went into the community. After we knew clearly who wanted to come and learn at Liger, we gave the permission to their parents. So all of their parents can trust us. Then they let their child come and learn at Liger.

After we knew exactly who would come to learn, we prepared the lesson for them. When we went to the community to find them we also asked them what do they want to learn and that’s how we can prepare the lesson. When we finished planning the lesson we practiced before teaching students. We practiced with each other in our class. Even if we practiced with each other it does not mean that we are expert or good at it. So we had a trip to two schools. The schools are Northbridge and ICAN. At ICAN we met with one woman named Kate. Kate and Jessica prepared the schedule for us and some ICAN students to tour us around. We went there because we wanted to get experiences from the teachers at their school. Two to three days after that we went to Northbridge. At the end of the Exploration we asked some of the students how they felt and what did they think about our teaching (if its good or not). We gave them the lessons for free.

Future Jobs Description

Exploration Name: Future Jobs

Exploration Dates: January 20th – March 7th

Number of Students: 12

Essential Questions:

1. How will jobs that help Cambodia look different in the future?

2. What motivates people to choose the job they do?

Description:

During the round four exploration we learned about Future Jobs. In Future Jobs we had to develop the presentation questions (ask more questions). We asked more questions because in our Exploration we had a lot of trips that taught us about the jobs in the real life. After that we learned about Nanotechnology, Water crisis and Alternative fuels. Nanotechnology is smaller than atoms. One thing we learned was that it is waterproof and can go underground without breaking. In Water crisis topic we learned that 70% of the Earth is seawater and 30% is land. But just 3% is good water. 884 million people don’t have good water and nearly 1,000,000,000 don’t have water. The last topic was Alternative fuel. We noticed that the gas can live 60 years, oil can live 60 years and coal can live 1000 years. Last we prepared for our job shadow on the next day. Job shadow means to go to the real place of work to do the job with the people that are in the job that helps Cambodia a lot. All of us went to different places with our partner. For example, some of us went to World Vision and some went to Northbridge International School.
